I Do Not Like Tiger!

I thought I would try a paragraph heading that maybe you have never before seen associated with Tiger Woods. But in a way it’s true, I do dislike Tiger Woods. I dislike him similarly to the way I dislike the Yankees, Michael Jordan, the Patriots, the Montreal Canadiens of old, or anyone else in sports who cannot seem to lose for winning. Why? Because it gets boring watching winners who go about their jobs with machine like always expected precision. I am the bettor at the track who throws away money at the pari-mutuels chasing down the longest shots on the board, not only to try to catch the big bucks, but to enjoy the excitement of seeing some nag from a bottom feeding stable get out there and beat one of the over pampered thoroughbreds that would have paid 2.30 to win on a 2.00 ticket.

Excitement

I do not think you can equate excitement with efficiency in sports. What is exciting about knowing that when going into the final round of a tournament with a lead, Tiger will win. Will win! However, being that good is no fluke, he works hard, and we have all read how he is constantly tweaking his swing, so even though he makes it look easy, you know he is always working on his game. But you will always find me screaming at the TV hoping that someone for once will come from behind and catch and then beat Tiger in some dramatic fashion. Nope. Does not happen. He is ahead coming home; he is finishing it off with yet another win.  Do you hear the yells “get in” when Tiger’s putts are rolling to the cup? You cannot hear me of course, but I am yelling MISS, STAY OUT!

Underdog

He is altogether a different a different animal, so you will likely never find Tiger classified as an underdog. But until someone comes along that can match his efficiency, his cool demeanour and his unbelievable command of a golf course, I guess I will have to be content finding the latest likely underdog and cheer him on. Maybe this explains why I have been a long-suffering Vikings fan for so long!
