DALLAS COWBOYS, step to the front of the class. Regardless of how the season ends up, (unless it’s a super bowl win) Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells have got to have had many toss and turn sleepless nights reconsidering the addition of Terrell Owens to the ‘Boys. He has produced TD’s in good number, but has all the Terrell-turmoil been worth it? Starting at training camp and continuing practically non-stop all season, Owens has been at his distracting best. If Parcells is considering coming back, it’s very possible that he may ask Jones to not include Owens on next year’s roster.
HOUSTON TEXANS, how do you like your first pick now compared to say, Reggie Bush or maybe even Matt Leinhart or Jay Cutler? Anything I have read indicates that the Texan’s management is still not conceding that taking Mario Williams instead of Reggie Bush was a mistake. Possibly this could be the longest period of denial in the fishbowl of NFL second-guessing. Williams may end up being one of the best defensive ends ever to play in the NFL, but on the short term, Bush has to have been the better choice. Seems obvious!
WASHINGTON REDSKINS, if you are able to give safety Adam Archuleta only special teams duties for half the season, why did you sign him to a seven year thirty-five million dollar contract with tem million in bonuses? It appears that the Skins admit that signing Archuleta was a big mistake, but couldn’t they have somehow reworked this hard-hitting guy into the system somewhere rather than just special teams?
MINNESOTA VIKINGS, you are probably regretting putting all your quarterback eggs in the Brad Johnson basket. When Johnson’s game started to go south about halfway through the season, wouldn’t it have been great to have an experienced QB, (not Bollinger!) around to back him up. Better yet, hindsight (the best sight of all) probably suggests that Johnson should have been the backup and someone else should have been numero-uno. If Tarvaris Jackson isn’t going to do the job, the Vikes may have the same problem all over again next year. In the off-season untie the bankroll Zygi, and sign a west coast type QB with still some legs left.
Hey, OAKLAND RAIDERS, your free agent QB signing hasn’t exactly paid much in the way of dividends. Who was it now? It’s been so long since we’ve seen him play? Oh yeah Aaron Brooks. Brooks who went down early in the season with a knee injury wasn’t exactly exciting Raiders fans anyway, and the guy with two first names, Andrew Walter isn’t the answer. The Raiders are competing with the Detroit Lions for the most dysfunctional organization and the team with the league’s worst record, and may just come out with a number one pick and a chance at a franchise QB next draft.
Except for the Cowboys, this list of teams with regrets is also a list of teams that have not performed very well in 2006. There are others that have regrets of off-season moves, but these teams are some of the more obvious that made questionable moves, or non moves.
