THE LE BRONS
At first glance, to the uninitiated, the above title sounds like the name of one of those intensely choreographed Do Wop groups from Motown in the ‘50’s. Or was it ‘60’s? There were so many good ones, I can’t come up with a favourite, but as good as their dancing/singing was put together, none of their routines could match the NBA act of Le Bron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers as they hoof their way through the post season so far this year. To their credit they are a playoff team this year, even though you could call them a “one-man” team.
In an earlier article I admitted to being a Piston fan, and at that time I was positive that Detroit would be blowing away the opposition on the way to another title. Well, it may happen, but it will take more than boastful pre-game predictions to do it. At times in the series, the Pistons have looked disorganized and have not at all resembled the Champs that I expected to see hit the floor every night. …Hit the pause button and let’s wait until the results of game six. It could be funeral-like, as I recap how the Pistons somehow couldn’t get it done and are now booking their tee times and The Le Brons have completed the shocker and will move to the next round. Or as I hoped for, the Pistons will have sucked it up played with the intensity needed and won the game.
RELEASE THE PAUSE…
Wow, game six is done and sports history will tell us that the Pistons won and the LeBrons will have to win a pressure packed seventh game in Detroit. Speaking of pressure, as much as I want to find fault with James, this is a guy that seems to love it when everything is on the line. Have you noticed how he seems to bring his A Game in the second half of nearly every contest? He was draining free throw after free throw late in the sixth game as if he was practicing at the schoolyard outdoor court, not in a key game against a NBA playoff team. I hadn’t intended to make this a serial article, but it’s working out that way OK, hit the pause again…
OUT OF THE FRYING PAN AND ONTO THE HEAT
The Pistons drove out to a really quick start in the seventh game and although the Cavs made it fairly interesting at times in the first half, an over-powering Pistons team proved to be far too much for Cleveland in the second stanza. Cleveland gave it a good try, making Detroit work very hard to win this series, it wasn’t the cakewalk I was hoping for, but a win is a win and the Pistons now take on the Miami Heat in the Conference Final.
I have written before that Cleveland will have to add a few more talented players before they advance to the next level. Detroit used double and triple teaming against James successfully as the Cavs had no one else good enough to back up the embattled James. This series seemed to prove that he couldn’t do it alone.
Please note, I wrote this article without once mentioning one game score or any meaningful stat. I’m not sure I’ve ever written a sports article that way before now.
